Globalization and its Impact on Education
Needed reforms within the educational system
                           The fall out of globalization
Internationalization of education is not a new phenomenon. Cross Border Higher Education through migration of learners and teachers was one form which is happening even today. But after India signed the GATS in 1996,          it is no more restricted to movement of individuals but expanded to institutionalization of higher education. It has transformed the ethos of education form social responsibility to tradable commodity. Such a change created confusion as to whether it is an opportunity or threat?
UNESCO (2005) took cognisance and jointly developed ‘Guidelines for Quality Provisions in Cross Border Higher Education’. Knight (2003) defined internationalization of education as ‘the process of integrating an international, intercultural and global dimension into the purpose, functions (teaching, extension service, research) and delivery of higher education. She has proposed several ways through which internationalization of education can be achieved.          These include academic mobility for students and teachers, international linkages through MOUs, partnerships and projects, new academic programs and research initiatives (Knight, 2006). Internationalization of higher education is considered as the response to the process of liberalization, privatization and globalization.
